For the third consecutive season, the Washington Huskies won't play in the NCAA tournament. That's the longest a Lorenzo Romar team has gone without an NCAA appearance since he took over as UW coach. At best, the Huskies are hoping for an invitation to the NIT. If that happens, it will be their third consecutive trip to that tournament.
But it doesn't seem all that likely now, as a pair of NIT projections -- one from the Bracket Project, and one from DRatings -- both leave Washington out. And as the Bracket Project noted, there are more auto-bids than usual this season for regular-season conference champions that didn't win their conference tournaments, which obviously leaves fewer spots for teams like the Huskies.
The NIT selection show airs at 5:30 p.m. on ESPNU. And, as always, the NCAA tournament selection show airs on CBS at 3 p.m.
