Huskies coach Chris Petersen spoke for about 20 minutes yesterday afternoon with Dave "Softy" Mahler of Sports Radio KJR, and you can listen to that segment above.
It was a fairly wide-ranging interview. Of most interest: Petersen said he has "no idea" if Cyler Miles will start at quarterback for the Huskies next season, saying only that he's looking forward to how the competition plays out. He also didn't rule out the possibility of freshman Jake Browning winning the job.
"I think it's going to be good for Cyler," Petersen said of the competition. "It's going to be good for everyone in this program, and away we go."
Also interesting: Petersen said if he had it to do over again, he wouldn't have sent players home for so many days around Christmas. But he still feels they needed some kind of break.
Never miss a local story.
--- No. 1-ranked Rainier Beach beat No. 2-ranked Eastside Catholic, 64-51, at Rainier Beach last night. The game featured a pair of Huskies signees -- Beach's Dejounte Murray, who scored 26 points, and Eastside Catholic's Matisse Thybulle, who scored 21. Another UW recruiting target, junior Keith Smith, looked pretty impressive in the first half but left the game with an injury. Rainier Beach coach Mike Bethea old Josh Liebeskind of The Seattle Times that Smith felt a pop in his knee.
--- Could an early-signing period be coming to college football? It's being considered.
