HBO Real Sports aired a pretty interesting documentary tonight focusing on head injuries in the NCAA, and some of the unfortunate consequences suffered by college athletes after their playing days are over -- such as mounting medical bills and difficulty paying them.
Former Huskies safety Darin Harris, who played for UW from 2004-07, speaks to that problem in the preview you see above. Harris suffered a concussion during his final season at UW, and said that as a result he's had trouble holding down a job, among other hardships. Harris and former UW quarterback Johnny Durocher have since filed a class-action lawsuit against the NCAA, seeking more than $5 million in damages to compensate for the head injuries they sustained during their college careers.
The entire documentary aired on HBO earlier tonight, and should be eventually available on HBO Go.
