With fewer than two weeks remaining now until the start of the season, I figured it would be a good time to take a look at the Huskies’ season ticket sales.
A UW spokesperson said Thursday that the school has sold 39,357 season tickets for the 2015 season, not counting student tickets. Around the same time last year -- nearly two weeks earlier, actually -- UW had reportedly sold about 44,000 season tickets, so sales are obviously down this season. The UW reports a season-ticket renewal rate of about 87 percent. From what I can tell, the fewest number of season tickets the Huskies have sold in the last decade was 40,600 in 2009, more than 1,000 more than the school had sold for this season as of Thursday.
As for Husky Stadium’s 28 luxury suites, 27 of them have been sold for the season, with the 28th suite being sold on a game-by-game basis.
The Huskies averaged 64,508 fans per home game in 2014.
--- Here’s our story today about the commitment of 5-star guard Markelle Fultz to the Huskies basketball team. UW coach Lorenzo Romar has coached five 5-star recruits in his 13-year tenure -- Jon Brockman, Spencer Hawes, Quincy Pondexter, Abdul Gaddy and Tony Wroten -- but landing Fultz might carry more significance because he’s an east-coast prospect who chose the Huskies over offers from a slew of powerhouse programs. Scout.com’s Evan Daniels indicated on Twitter that Fultz will likely be ranked in the top 10 of Scout’s updated ranking of the 2016 class. Needless to say, that makes Fultz’s commitment a pretty big coup for a UW program that already signed a top-10 class in 2015.
--- SI.com has a good look at Fultz and his ascension from Dematha Catholic’s JV team as a sophomore to league player of the year as a junior. SI also wrote about Fultz’s commitment on Friday, calling it “one of the biggest recruiting coups in (UW) program history.”
--- Lake Stevens quarterback Jacob Eason, considered one of the top prospects in the 2016 recruiting class, signed a financial-aid agreement with Georgia and plans to enroll there in January.
