-- What has been speculated for a while is now apparent as the Washington Huskies warm up for their season opener tonight at Boise State -- Jake Browning, UW’s true freshman quarterback, is working with the No. 1 offense and appears set to start.
Browning would be the first true freshman quarterback to start a season opener in UW history, and will be the first true freshman quarterback to play for coach Chris Petersen.
K.J. Carta-Samuels, a redshirt freshman, took snaps with the No. 2 offense and appears to be the backup.
After a highly successful career at Folsom High School in which he set the national record with 229 passing touchdowns -- including 91 last season as a senior -- Browning enrolled at UW in January and competed with Carta-Samuels and fourth-year junior Jeff Lindquist for the starting job throughout spring and preseason camp.
