Puget Sound survived the elements but couldn’t survive the 24th-ranked Willamette Bearcats as the Loggers lost, 50-6, in a Northwest Conference football game on Saturday afternoon at Baker Stadium.
A thunderstorm converged upon Tacoma late in the third quarter and game officials delayed the start of the fourth quarter by 57 minutes.
Bearcats junior wide receiver Scott Schoettgen caught four touchdown passes for the Bearcats (7-2 overall, 4-1 Northwest Conference).
The lone score for the Loggers (0-8, 0-5 NWC) came when quarterback Spencer Crace threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Tim Fogarty with 9 minutes, 29 seconds to go to make the score 43-6.
Willamette had 31 first downs compared to six for the Loggers and held a 552-125 edge in total offense. The Bearcats were 9-for-14 on third-down conversions and 3-for-3 on fourth down, compared to 2-for-13 on third down and 1-for-4 on fourth down for UPS.
Casey Larson ran for 43 yards on 12 carries and Kavin Williams rushed for 32 yards on four carries for the Loggers.
Kingston Simon returned eight kickoffs for 208 yards, with a long return of 37 yards, for the Loggers.
