If you thought the 87th Tacoma City Amateur golf tournament had come and gone, you were wrong.
It is still held in August, and not in its traditional spot in June.
And it starts this weekend.
The city’s most prestigious amateur event kicks off Friday with the first of three rounds at Trophy Lake Golf and Casting Club in Port Orchard.
The field then returns to the city Saturday for the second round at Allenmore Golf Course.
The low 30 scores (and ties) will advance to the final round Sunday at Tacoma Country and Golf Club.
Enumclaw’s Tyler Salsbury, the reigning Tacoma City Amateur champion, is in the field to defend his championship. He tees off at 11:48 a.m. Friday.
Other former event champions in the field include Sean Packer (2004, 2010, 2014), Jon McCaslin (2009, 2013), David Talcott (2002, 2006), Tom Lewis (2007) and JD Rushton (1997).
The public is welcome to follow the groups. Admission is free.
