This week: John Deere Classic, through Sunday, TPC Deer Run, Silvis, Illinois.
In the field: Puyallup’s Ryan Moore, Gig Harbor’s Kyle Stanley and Tacoma’s Troy Kelly.
Third-round scores: Moore fired a 4-under-par 67, and Stanley shot a 1-over 72.
Positions: Moore (13-under 200) is tied for ninth, and Stanley (3-under 210) is tied for 68th — all trailing leader Brian Harman (17-under 196). Kelly (1-over 143) missed the cut by three strokes.
Recap: Early-morning rainfall softened the layout, making Saturday easily the best-scoring day of the week (68.2 stroke average). And Moore was keeping pace, with four birdies in his first six holes, capped by one at No. 6 (25-foot putt). But he went into two sand bunkers on the eighth hole, leading to his lone bogey. He birdied the 10th hole but was really let down on the back nine holes by his iron play, especially his wedges. Still, on a course that allows plenty of birdies, the Cascade Christian graduate is right in the title hunt, especially after Harman made bogey on his final hole. … There is much to speak of with Stanley’s round (three bogeys, two birdies). The Bellarmine Prep product birdied the first hole on a 15-foot putt, but he three-putted from 30 feet at No. 4 for bogey, then missed a 5-footer for par two holes later. He stayed over par the rest of the round.
Tee times Sunday: Stanley at 5:48 a.m. (PDT), and Moore at 10:09 a.m.
