This week: The Memorial Tournament, Thursday through Sunday, Muirfield Village Golf Club, Dublin, Ohio
In the field: Puyallup’s Ryan Moore, Olympia’s Andres Gonzales and University Place’s Michael and Andrew Putnam.
World rankings: Moore is 34th, Gonzales is 287th, Michael Putnam is 293rd, and Andrew Putnam is 358th.
2014-15 earnings: Moore has $2.24 million (18th on the PGA Tour), Gonzales has $698,770 (93rd on the PGA Tour), Michael Putnam has $382,836 (137th on the PGA Tour), and Andrew Putnam has $251,812 (164th on the PGA Tour).
The skinny: This is always one of the favorite stops on the PGA Tour, and this week is a little more special because it is the 40th Memorial event. Considering Moore’s stellar track record — he’s had top-25 finishes in four of his past five appearances, including a tied-for-19th effort last year (5-under-par 283) — you’d have to consider him a threat to win Jack Nicklaus’ tournament. Moore said Tuesday this is his favorite PGA Tour tournament, especially with the Augusta-like condition of the course. … The other three locals played in last week’s Byron Nelson Championship. Michael Putnam (1-under 207) made it to the weekend and cashed, but Andrew Putnam (1-over 140) and Gonzales (5-over 144) missed the cut. Michael Putnam has a new caddie for the time being: Bill Harke, who has been part of Chris Kirk’s rotating bag. Harke caddied for Michael Putnam last week and will again at the U.S. Open sectional qualifier in Columbus on June 8. Putnam said he if makes it to the U.S. Open at Chambers Bay, he will have older brother, Joel, back on the bag for that tournament.
Tee times Thursday: Moore at 5:15 a.m. (PDT) off the first tee, Gonzales at 9:10 a.m. off the first tee, Michael Putnam at 9:32 a.m. off the first tee and Andrew Putnam at 10:49 a.m. off the 10th tee.
