In a defensive juggernaut, Josiah Fidecaro was the only one to reach home in a 1-0 3A SPSL home victory for the Sumner High School baseball team against Auburn Riverside.
Spartans senior Johnny Staley (3-0) gave up four hits and struck out three. The defensive effort behind him contributed to the win.
"It was a clean, quick game," Sumner coach Casey Adcox said. "One walk between both teams. Pitchers were commanding in the zone. A fun game to watch."
In the third inning, the Ravens threatened with runners on first and third but Sumner's defense held strong to close the inning out. The Ravens out-hit Sumner 4-2 and committed no errors.
Tied at 1, the Gators' Billy Fitzpatrick drove in the game winning run with a single in the bottom of the sixth inning.
