In a defensive juggernaut, Josiah Fidecaro was the only one to reach home in a 1-0 3A SPSL home victory for the Sumner High School baseball team against Auburn Riverside.
Spartans senior Johnny Staley (3-0) gave up four hits and struck out three. The defensive effort behind him contributed to the win.
"It was a clean, quick game," Sumner coach Casey Adcox said. "One walk between both teams. Pitchers were commanding in the zone. A fun game to watch."
In the third inning, the Ravens threatened with runners on first and third but Sumner's defense held strong to close the inning out. The Ravens out-hit Sumner 4-2 and committed no errors.
Decatur 2, Mount Rainier 1: Taylor Havlicek pitched eight strikeouts over six innings in the Gators’ 4A SPSL Northwest home win over the Rams.
Tied at 1, the Gators' Billy Fitzpatrick drove in the game winning run with a single in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Emerald Ridge 5, Graham-Kapowsin 4: Nate Alfonso hit a grand slam for the Eagles in the fourth inning but Emerald Ridge's seven hits proved the deciding factor. Braedon Dorohoy had two of the Jaguars hits.
Rogers 7, Bethel 3: Rams juniors Troy Johnston and Jacob Stone had three hits each in the 4A SPSL South road win over Bethel. Rogers outhit Bethel 9-6.
Vashon 9, Bellevue Christian 4: The Pirates' Harper Whitney had three hits and drove in three runs to help Vashon clinch a Nisqually 1A home match. Josh Myer earned the win on the mound and added some offense too with two hits.
