Trevon Powe of the Wilson High School boys track and field team, Mount Rainier Lutheran pitcher Erik Kozakowski and Northwest Christian of Lacey’s distance runner Anna Brooks were among the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association’s athletes of the week.
Powe, a senior, dominated at the 3A Narrows Track and Field Championships last week. He took first in the 100-meter dash (11.22 seconds), 200-meter dash (22.56), 110 hurdles (14.76) and was part of the Rams’ first-place 4x100-meter relay team (43.30).
Powe’s 110 hurdle time is the third best in the 3A Classification this season. And the relay time is the seventh best in 3A.
Kozakowski led Mount Rainier Lutheran to a pair of 1B quad-district tournament wins last week in helping the Hawks reach the state tournament for the second consecutive year.
Never miss a local story.
He allowed just four hits and no runs in seven innings in the district title game against Oakville. He also hit a double and scored a run. That came after Kozakowski pitched a two-hit complete game against Naselle.
Brooks took first place in the 3,200 for Northwest Christian at the Bob Shaner Invitational with a winning time of 11:21.97.
