Jose Lopez hit a two-run homer to lead the Seattle Mariners in a three-game sweep of the Oakland Athletics with a 5-3 victory.

Mike Sweeney drove in a run for the Mariners, who have won four of their last six games. Bill Hall also knocked in a pair in the win.

Luke French (4-3) got the win after going 5 2/3 innings and giving up three runs on six hits with four strikeouts to one walk. David Aardsma recorded his 30th save of the year with a scoreless ninth.

"I didn't feel like I had the best stuff, or the best command, but I felt like I was battling myself to keep the ball down," said French. "I got out of a couple tight situations early, getting out of stuff like that, that's probably the stuff I'm most proud of. Just keeping my team in the game is really all I care about."

Kurt Suzuki had a two-run homer for the A's, who have lost six of eight. Jack Cust added a solo homer in the setback.

Gio Gonzalez (4-5) took the loss after surrendering four runs on seven hits with seven punchouts to three free passes over five frames.

Sitting on a one-run lead with two outs in the seventh, Lopez hit a fly ball to center that looked like an easy out. However, Rajai Davis let the ball carom off his glove and Lopez went to second. Sweeney followed with an RBI single to make it 5-3.

Aardsma was on the hill in the ninth trying to seal the win, but gave up a leadoff single to Mark Ellis and Ryan Sweeney followed suit. Tommy Everidge, though, was caught looking at the third strike and pinch-hitter Nomar Garciaparra also stared at the third strike for the second out. Adam Kennedy grounded out to end the game.

The M's took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on Lopez' run homer to left.

Jack Hannahan then led the third off with a double and crossed home two outs later as Hall singled to center.

Cust's shot in the fourth cut it to 3-1. It marked the third straight year he's reached 20 home runs.

"It's what I do," said Cust. "(I'm) pumped about that, but kind of disappointing series here. We were in the games, but couldn't come through. It's a little bit disappointing as a team, but that's definitely a positive."

Hall's sac fly in the fifth made it a three-run affair again. Davis then singled to lead off the sixth and Suzuki followed with a homer to left that cut it to 4-3.
