Felix Hernandez got back to his winning ways with seven solid innings, and the Seattle Mariners grabbed a 6-3 win against the Kansas City Royals at Safeco Field.
Hernandez (13-5) got his first win after going four starts without one, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk while fanning six. Josh Wilson drove in three runs, as the Mariners improved to 4-1 on their 10-game homestand.
Mike Sweeney added two hits against his former club to go with two runs scored an an RBI. David Aardsma earned his 31st save of the season.
Mitch Maier hit a two-run homer for the Royals, who have lost seven of nine. Brian Bannister (7-11) gave up all six runs -- five earned -- on seven hits and a pair of walks in 6 2/3 innings to absorb the loss.
The Mariners opened the scoring in the second. Russell Branyan reached on a bunt single and moved to second on Sweeney's single. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, and Bill Hall and Wilson each hit an RBI groundout for a 2-0 lead.
The Royals came right back in the third, cutting their deficit in half as Josh Anderson singled, stole second and scored on David DeJesus' single.
Franklin Gutierrez restored Seattle's two-run lead in the home third when he scored on Mark Teahen's fielding error.
Wilson padded the M's lead in the fourth with a two-run single, but Maier made it 5-3 for the Royals with a two-run shot to right.
A bases-loaded walk by Sweeney in the seventh accounted for the final score.
