Ichiro Suzuki notched the game-winning RBI single in the 14th inning, as the Seattle Mariners rallied from a two-run ninth inning deficit to stun the White Sox, 4-3, and put a damper on Chicago's playoff hopes.

In the second 14-inning game between these two teams this season, Seattle's Jose Lopez and Bill Hall each hit a solo homer off Chicago closer Bobby Jenks in the ninth to tie the game. Adrian Beltre also had a home run in the Mariners' fourth win in six games.

Suzuki went 2-for-6 and notched his second career game-winning hit. Brandon Morrow started and allowed three runs -- two earned -- on six hits and six walks in 5 2/3 innings. The bullpen combined to pitch 8 1/3 scoreless frames, and Shawn Kelley (5-3) notched the win for two perfect innings.

"The story for me is 8 1/3 shutout (innings) by the bullpen," said Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu. "Thank God it's September (and we) have some arms down there. They did a phenomenal job, I could go down the list, but 8 1/3 shutout innings is pretty impressive."

Mark Kotsay went 4-for-6 with two RBI for the White Sox, who remained 6 1/2 games behind Detroit in the AL Central with 15 games to play. Chicago is also behind Minnesota by 2 1/2 games after the loss.

The White Sox wasted an excellent start by John Danks, who went eight innings and gave up just one run on four hits and two walks. Jenks blew his sixth save of the year, while Scott Linebrink (3-7) absorbed the loss.

Jenks came on to save the game in the ninth with a 3-1 lead but couldn't get the job done. The first hitter he faced was Lopez, who belted a leadoff homer to cut Seattle's deficit to one.

After Jenks got the next two hitters to ground out to shortstop, Hall crushed another solo shot to left to tie the game.

"I'm tired ... two and a half hours of satisfaction and two and a half (hours) of (unsatisfactory) baseball," White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said. "I don't have any more quotes, what...am I going to say?"

The White Sox put together a threat in the 12th, putting runners on the corners with two outs, but Jermaine Dye struck out swinging to end the inning.

Seattle had runners on first and second with one out in the 13th, but Beltre and Hall both struck out. The Mariners put themselves in the same situation in the 14th after Ryan Langerhans hit a one-out single and pinch-hitter Kenji Johjima was hit by a pitch.

This time the opportunity would not be wasted, as Suzuki lined a game-winning RBI single to the gap in right-center field.

Chicago got on the board in the first. Scott Podsednik walked, moved to third on a Gordon Beckham single and scored on A.J. Pierzynski's sacrifice fly.

"It's just frustrating because (Detroit's) trying to let us back in it," Pierzynski said. "They keep losing games and they're keeping us in it by not winning. That's what's so frustrating. It seems like it's there, but we can't do anything about it."

In the third, Paul Konerko clubbed a one-out double and scored on Kotsay's base hit for a 2-0 edge. Kotsay added another RBI single in the fifth to score Beckham, who had walked to start the frame.

Meanwhile, Danks was superb, allowing only two walks and two singles through the first six scoreless innings.

Seattle, though, finally scored in the seventh with a one-out solo homer from Beltre. Danks retired the next two hitters to keep it a two-run game and stranded a leadoff double in the eighth.
