St. Petersburg, FL (Sports Network) - B.J. Upton's two-run single in the eighth inning was the difference, as the Tampa Bay Rays edged the Seattle Mariners, 5-4, in the finale of a two-game set from Tropicana Field.

Upton finished 2-for-3 with three RBI for Tampa Bay, which has won five of six. Akinori Iwamura added a two-run triple in the win. Wade Davis lasted 5 2/3 innings and gave up four runs -- two earned -- on seven hits with six punchouts to one walk to get a no-decision. Russ Springer (1-4) got the win after recording the final out in the eighth inning.

Ichiro Suzuki and Franklin Gutierrez drove in a run each for Seattle, which snapped a two-game winning streak. Brandon Morrow lasted five-plus innings and yielded two runs on three hits, but got a no-decision.

Trailing by a run in the eighth, the Rays rallied to take the lead. With Mark Lowe (2-7) on the mound, Evan Longoria led off with a single and Ben Zobrist followed with a walk. Willy Aybar grounded into a force out to leave runners on the corners and Iwamura walked to load the bases. Upton's single to left plated two runners to give the home team a 5-4 edge.

"(We'll take) any win we can get, no matter how it happens," said Upton. "Our main objective is to win."

Randy Choate took the hill in the ninth and retired the side in order to seal the deal -- thanks to a nice grab from Upton at the warning track on a ball hit by pinch-hitter Bill Hall. Choate notched his fifth save of the year.

The Mariners got on the board, 1-0, in the third inning. Michael Saunders had a one-out single, moved to second on Suzuki's base hit, advanced 90 feet as Gutierrez grounded out and crossed home on a passed ball.

Seattle tacked on two more runs in the fifth frame. Jack Hannahan led off with a single, moved to second on Saunders' base hit and crossed home as Suzuki singled to center. After a double steal, Gutierrez followed with a run-scoring groundout to make it 3-0.

Hannahan's RBI single off Lance Cormier in the sixth gave the visitors a 4-0 edge. However, the Rays struck in the home portion.

"Early in the ball game I thought we did a good job of manufacturing (runs), we were ahead 4-0," said Seattle manager Don Wakamatsu. "From that point...we didn't capitalize."

Iwamura had a two-run triple off Garrett Olson, which scored Carl Crawford and Zobrist. Miguel Batista then came on in relief and yielded an RBI base hit to Upton, which closed it to 4-3.
