Ken Griffey, Jr. hit a three-run homer and Brandon Morrow was stellar on the bump, as the Seattle Mariners made short work of the Oakland Athletics, 7-0, in the middle test of a three-game set.
Morrow (2-4) took the win after tossing a career-high eight innings and yielding one hit with two walks and a career-high nine punchouts.
Adam Moore added a solo homer for the M's, who have won two straight on the heels of a three-game slide. Jack Hannahan and Jose Lopez drove in a run each, while Franklin Gutierrez went 2-for-4, scored twice and knocked in a run.
Clay Mortensen (2-4) took the loss after getting roughed up for six runs on eight hits in only an inning-plus of work.
Rajai Davis and Landon Powell had a hit each to account for all the offense for the A's, who have dropped three in a row.
The Mariners took a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Ichiro Suzuki and Gutierrez led off with singles before Lopez popped up. Griffey then stroked a three-run homer to center field. Adrian Beltre then singled and Kenji Johjima was hit by a pitch, which gave way to Hannahan's RBI double.
Suzuki then opened the second with a triple and crossed home as Gutierrez singled to left. Gutierrez took third on Mortensen's throwing gaffe and crossed home on Lopez's double, which made it 6-0.
Moore had a two-out solo homer off Jeff Gray in the fourth to make it a seven- run affair.
