Seattle Mariners catcher Rob Johnson is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair both hips and his left wrist, the club announced on Tuesday.
Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik said Johnson will have the first procedure to repair a torn labrum on his left hip on Friday. The operation will be performed by Dr. Marc Philippon in Vail, Colorado.
After about three weeks of recuperation, Johnson will return to Vail to undergo an identical surgery on his right hip. The backstop will then head to Seattle after another rehab period to have a procedure on his wrist.
At present, Johnson is expected to be ready for spring training in March.
Johnson appeared in 80 games during the 2009 season and hit .213 with two home runs and 27 runs batted in. For his career, he is a .205 hitter with five homers and 47 RBI in three seasons with the Mariners.
