Having clinched a winning season, the Seattle Mariners feel free to release the babies on the Texas Rangers.
That means rookies Mike Carp, Adam Moore and Michael Saunders are in the lineup.
They may not be the future of the franchise, but they each might be a part of it.
It's Brandon McCarthy vs. Ian Snell.
Throw strikes!
A one-out walk in the second inning opened a two-run rally, with ex-Mariner Omar Vizquel driving in one run and Julio Borbon's single the other.
Pitch efficiency remains an issue for Snell. To get the first six outs, he needed 43 pitches.
In the second: Rangers 2, Mariners 0
More trouble
Whatever Snell has tonight, he doesn't appear to have command of it.
After a one-out walk hurt him in the first inning, Snell walked the first man he faced in the third inning, gave up a single and a sacrifice bunt to put men at second and third with one out.
Chris Davis singled home a run, and Snell ended the inning with a double play. Still, he's down 3-0 and throwing a ton of pitches.
In the third: Rangers 3, Mariners 0
Mariners make noise
Franklin Gutierrez doubled and Jose Lopez legged out an infield single before Adrian Beltre singled home a run.
McCarthy wild-pitched the runners to second and third base for Mike Carp - who singled both home for the tie.
After four: Mariners 3, Rangers 3
Tied no more
Josh Wilson doubled, Ichiro moved him to third base and - with two out - Jose Lopez singled him home.
That's 94 RBI with two-plus games to play for the second baseman.
After five: Mariners 4, Rangers 3
Mr. Snell's night
For all that he did wrong early, Snell pitched wonderfully the last three innings and is probably done after six.
If so, he's in line for his sixth win.
Not so fast, Mariners
Mark Lowe's 75th appearance of the season - third in the American League - wasn't all he'd hoped.
With two outs, Michael Young pushed a soft line drive into right field for an RBI single that brought home the tying run.
In the eighth: Mariners 4, Rangers 4
In the ninth
David Aardsma working, the sixth Mariner pitcher. Two outs, two on, and Taylor Teagtarden singled home Chris Davis.
In the ninth: Rangers 5, Mariners 4
That's a final
Mariners went quickly in the ninth.
