First baseman Lyle Overbay is available again, and as has been the case for the past six years, he's being linked to a deal involving the Seattle Mariners.
Here's the latest rumor.
Overbay has played for three teams in his career - Arizona, Milwaukee and Toronto - and each of them has grown tired of him early on. He's not a bad guy, he's just not a power hitter.
In the last year of a contract that will pay him $7 million in 2010, Overbay is 32, a doubles hitter who last year drove in fewer than 70 RBI. Hard to see that has something the Mariners couldn't come up with from within.
Again, because everyone knows Seattle need offense - having been last in the league in runs scored - the Mariners come up when anyone tries to move a hitter.
Seattle passed on Overbay when he was in his prime. Bet they pass on him again.
