Seattle Mariners right-hander Doug Fister was hit by a line drive in the first inning of his start against the Cincinnati Reds tonight, and was immediately removed from the game.
The ball hit Fister on the right forearm before bouncing to third baseman Jose Lopez, who threw Joey Votto out at first base.
Jason Vargas now pitching, but the Mariners are optimistic Fister will be fine. An hour after being hit, he was in the training room with his forearm wrapped in ice.
"I saw it, but there wasn't much reaction time," Fister said. "If I have x-rays, they'll be done tomorrow."
