Right-handed setup man Brandon League was taking ground balls in a pitchers fielding drill today when he dove for a ground ball and his sunglasses cut him deep enough to draw blood.
League was walked to the clubhouse by trainer Rick Griffin, and the two had to walk past manager Don Wakamatsu - who was throwing batting practice - on another field.
"I thought, 'What now?'" Wakamatsu said later. "We're running out of bodies."
League's injury won't keep him off the mound, though he needed a couple of stitches, but it follows a day in which Cliff Lee (strained abdominal muscle) and Doug Fister (bruised forearm) went down with injuries.
Never miss a local story.
The manager tried to remain philosophical - even Biblical.
"This too shall pass," Wakamatsu said.
