With the Mariners off yesterday, I covered the Rainiers and watched them score seven or more runs for the fifth straight game. It's kind of odd to see some offense. Tommy Everidge hit a two-run homer and also had a two-run double in a 7-4 win.
Tacoma is playing Oklahoma City - the Rangers Triple A team - and Texas' farm system is loaded. That team has relievers Tanner Scheppers and Alexi Ogando, who both throw 95-plus. Ryan Garko has managed to play his way back there.
I didn't see if Saltalamacchia had any issues throwing the ball back to the pitcher's mound.
Also a note from my buddy Ben Spradling of the Rainiers on some scheduling issues ...
Never miss a local story.
The Tacoma Rainiers have scheduled a pair of doubleheaders with the Salt Lake Bees at Cheney Stadium on June 22 and 24 to make up for two games that had been postponed due to rain earlier this season.
The two games were originally scheduled to take place on April 26 and 27.
Each game of both doubleheaders will be seven innings, with first pitch set for 6 p.m. The second game will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.In the search for power, High Desert first baseman Rich Poythress has shown some. The former second-round pick out of Georgia hit his 11th home run of the season and fourth in three games. Before you go out and by a bunch of Poythress baseball cards (does he have any?). Remember that the Cal League is a hitters paradise so all number have to be taken with a baseball-sized grain of salt.
In Class A Clinton, starting pitcher Erasmo Ramirez had a solid outing, pitching six innings allowing one run on five hits. Ramirez won 3-straight games to improve to 3-2. He has allowed only 3 earned runs over his last 19.0 innings (1.42 ERA). Also shortstop Nick Franklin - one of my favorite prospects - had three more hits, raising his average to .328 to drive in three runs. He also stole three bags.
