You can probably answer that question yourself.
The Seattle Mariners have two of baseball's best starting pitchers in Cliff Lee and Felix Hernandez, and whatever chance the team has of reaching .500 or moving back into the American League West race likely starts with them.
Lee, who starts tonight, has a 3-2 record in six starts. Hernandez is 2-4 in 11 starts. He goes tomorrow.
Their numbers should be better, given their pitching, but the numbers of the Mariners in the games they've started?
When Felix starts, the team is 4-7. With Lee, 3-3. One of the best 1-2 punches in the game, and the Mariners are 7-10 when they start.
Seattle has a winning record in the starts of only one pitcher this season - Jason Vargas. The Mariners are 6-4 in games he's started.
Lee and Felix have given their team the chance to win most every start, but that hasn't been enough. If the Mariners are to begin any true run back to respectability, it has to begin by winning the games their best pitchers start.
Might as well start tonight.
