Doug Fister's fatigued shoulder landed him on the disabled list today, and the Seattle Mariners brought left-hander Luke French up from Tacoma and inserted him into their bullpen.
Fister skipped Saturday's start, replaced by Ryan Rowland-Smith, but the Mariners thought skipping at least one more start would gurantee Fister staying healthy. Rowland-Smith will start in his place, Fister was DL'ed retroactive to June 1.
And French? With the bullpen having used five of its sixpitchers in Saturday's game and a tough series in Texas coming up, French will pitch out of the Seattle bullpen and be asked to eat innings.
French was starting for Tacoma and had gone 6-2 with a 1.93 earned run average. The 24-year-old was obtained last season in the trade of Jarrod Washburn to Detroit, and went 3-3 with a 6.63 ERA in eight appearances with Seattle.
