In what is likely is last rehabilitation start of 2010, Erik Bedard will start for the Tacoma Rainiers tonight and throw anywhere from 75-85 pitches against the Portland Beavers.
Unless something dramatic interferes, Bedard will pitch tonight and then rejoin the Seattle Mariners and start on July 6 against Kansas City in Safeco Field.
Not that he needs it, but Bedard has the security blanket of playing with familiar teammates tonight. Adam Moore will catch him, and Mike Carp, Matt Tuiasosopo, Jack Hannahan and Chris Woodward will play behind him.
Bedard has'nt pitched to a big-league hitter since last July, and his shoulder surgery last August has sidelined him since.
What will Bedard have to say after the game?
"I don't plan on being here after the game," he said with a smile. That means he may have been joking or he may indeed pitch, shower and flee before the assembled media can descend upon him.
