Justin Smoak is on the Seattle Mariners 25-man roster and pitcher Luke French - called up yesterday - has been returned to the Tacoma Rainiers.
Smoak likely will start tonight at first base against the New York Yankees. French pitched three innings in relief last night, allowing one run. Solid appearance, saving most of the Seattle bullpen.
See you later, kid.
French, 24, made the Pacific Coast League All-Star team and has pitched well all season. The Mariners don't seem to think he has enough to be a big-league starter, which is why they started David Pauley last night instead of French.
Figure French will be back in the second half, though in what capacity and for how long remains uncertain.
