The Mariners released a medical updated on left-hander Erik Bedard, who had yet another setback in his recovery from offseason surgery on the labrum in his shoulder.
It has been determined that Bedard will seek a third opinion on the shoulder, and his treatment options. He will fly to New York and be examined by Dr. David Altchek next week.
Bedard, 31, had surgery on his left (pitching) shoulder on Aug. 14, 2009 to repair a torn labrum. He has spent the 2010 season rehabilitating following the surgery. Dr. Lewis Yocum performed the surgery in Los Angeles, CA.
Bedard has continued to experience discomfort in the shoulder. An MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) exam this week revealed continued inflammation in the shoulder. The MRI was reviewed by Dr. Yocum and Mariners Medical Director, Dr. Edward Khalfayan.
