1. Chone Figgins should not have been starting today. I don't care what was said in the meeting with manager Don Wakamatsu and GM Jack Zduriencik. He publicly challenged the authority of the manager during a game. He should sit for one game.
2. GM Jack Zduriencik should have publicly condemned Figgins' actions and labeled them unacceptable. It sets a bad precedent to the players and sends a bad message to fans about Wakamatsu's level of authority. It also makes me wonder about Wakamatsu's future in the organization.
3. Should Chone Figgins have been benched? Yes. Should have Jose Lopez been benched before him? Without question.
4. Is more being made of this than probably should be? I guess. It's controversy. We love controversy. But it's no turning point. It's no symbol. It's just another moment of dysfunction in an altogether embarrassing and disappointing season for the Seattle Mariners.
