As you will see below, left fielder Michael Saunders is out of the lineup today with a sore shoulder after slamming into the wall on David Murphy's two-run homer last night.
"It's stiff, but it will be alright," Saunders said. "It’s just a little stiff and we’ll go day-to-day.”
Saunders was in a little pain last night after the collision.
“They pulled me precautionary reasons," he said. "(Wak) asked if I had thrown yet and I told him, 'No,' so said they would set you down and take it from there. Stiffened up on me the rest of the night and again this morning so have been doing some work on it. It’s day-to-day.”
Never miss a local story.
Saunders still thinks he could make the catch.
"I kind of sprinted back to the wall to the area where I thought the ball might be," he said. "The ball was slicing. When I looked up to find the ball, it was slicing away from me, so I had to make an adjustment and by that time I was on the warning track. When I jumped and tried to get the ball, I kind of ran into the fence. It caught me off-guard. I thought that if I was there and had more time I had a good shot of getting it. I don’t know how far it went over, but not too far over the fence. When I was jumping to get it, I thought I was going to catch it, but I smoked the wall and it went over.”
It didn't help that he was playing Murphy a little shallow because he wasn't likely to come up with that kind of power to the opposite field off of Felix Hernandez.
"Murphy had a tremendous series against us," Wakamatsu said. "I was with him over in Texas and I saw him do some special things won’t we got him from Boston. He’s got a flat bat path and that home run – a lot of it was provided by Felix."
Reliever Shawn Kelley will have an MRI today and meet with specialist Dr. Lewis Yocum, who assisted with Dr. Edward Khalfayan on Erik Bedard's shoulder surgery earlier today.
Wakamatsu said he'd heard that Bedard's shoulder surgery went well, but didn't have any details.
