Franklin Gutierrez is inching closer back to his center field spot with the Seattle Mariners. Last night will only help that cause, Gutierrez had a big game with two hits, drove in four runs and made a brilliant catch to lead the Rainiers to a 13-3 win. Mike Curto has the story for us in today's TNT.
When will he be back? Probably by the end of next week, if not sooner. Gutierrez is up to about 185 pounds - he likes to play about 195. And he's also starting to regain some of his strength and stamina. Now it's just a matter of getting game reps.
Also of note, 1B Matt Mangini was placed on the disabled list and outfielder Ryan Langerhans has joined the team.
Double A Jackson lost 6-1, thanks to three errors in the first inning and four in the game. The only run the Generals got was on a Rich Poythress solo homer.
Never miss a local story.
Class A High Desert picked up an 8-5 win as Vinnie Catricala hit a pair of homers for the Mavs. Nick Franklin had three hits and a homer and Dennis Raben added three hits.
Class A Clinton was swept by Quad Cities, losing 6-1. Brandon Maurer allowed eight hits and four runs but did have eight strikeouts.
