The Angels have serious outfield issues with Howie Kendrick and Vernon Wells both on the DL, but Branyan won't be playing in the outfield (Think about how entertaining that might be). Instead, he will play some first base, taking away some playing time from rookie Mark Trumbo, and also spend some time at DH.
Is Branyan going to help the Angels? Possibly a little bit. We all know what he can and can't do. He can change a game in one swing of the bat. He can strike out three times in one game. He can't stop his back from flaring up. He can't come close to replacing even a 1/3 of Kendrys Morales production. But this is a low risk move for the Angels, who lack pop and have been decimated by injuries.
