Sorry about the hiatus from the minor league report. There was sort of day off on Saturday and a real day off on Sunday.
But the daily check-up on the Mariners' minor league squads, including the continued call-up watch of Mike Carp and Dustin Ackley.
Speaking of Carp, he extended his hitting streak to 21 games in the Rainiers' 16-8 win over Tucson. Carp went 3-for-5 with a home run. Granted the home run came off of outfielder Bobby Kielty, who was forced to come in and pitch. Carp wasn't the only player to homer. Yep, Ackley also went yard, ripping a solo homer. And Michael Saunders and Alex Liddi also hit home runs.
Double A Jackson lost 6-5 to Tennessee on a walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Joe Dunigan went 3-for-4 with 4 RBI and a homer.
Never miss a local story.
Class A High Desert lost 10-4 to Inland Empire. Vernon Wells, who is rehabbing a pulled groin, was playing for Inland Empire and went 0-2 with a run scored - so he's right on track to continue his earlier stellar production. Dennis Raben hit a home run for the Mavs.
Class A Clinton got a season-high eight innings from former UW pitcher Forrest Snow in a 6-1 win over Lake County. Kalian Sams went 3-for-5 and Steven Baron went 2-for-5 with a double and a stolen base.
Also congrats to lefty James Paxton, who was named to the Midwest League all-star game. Paxton will be Clinton's only representative at the Midwest League All-Star Game at Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport, IA on June 23.
The 23-year-old Paxton, Seattle's 4th-round pick in 2010 out of the independent American Association, is 2-2 with a 2.11 ERA, 25 walks, 54 strikeouts over 38.1 innings spanning 7 starts for the LumberKings. He has held Midwest League opponents to a .215 average this season, his first in affiliated Minor League Baseball after pitching for Grand Prairie of the independent American Association last year.
A native of Ladner, British Columbia, Canada, Paxton played collegiately at the University of Kentucky from 2007 to
2009, compiling a record of 11-5, a 4.91 ERA and 168 strikeouts in 55 games, 24 starts.[HTML1]
