In a very Cal League type game, the High Desert Mavericks lost to Lake Elsinore, 18-11 , after giving up eight runs in the first inning. High Desert missed a couple field goals late - just kidding. Yoervis Median gave up all eight runs in 2/3 innings pitched in a very short start.
The Mavs got big games from Dennis Raben and Nick Franklin in the win.
Raben went 3-for-5 with a double and a homer. Raben has hit safely in 5 of his last 6 games, batting .407 (11x27) with 7 runs scored, 2 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs and 12 RBI. Franklin went 2-for-4 with a homer and scored three runs.
Triple A Tacoma was also roughed up by Sacramento, 11-4. Starter Charlie Haeger worked four innings, giving up seven runs on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Never miss a local story.
Offensively, Alex Liddi homered for the second straight game. According to minor league report guru and creator Kelly Munro, Liddi currently has a 9-game hit streak, batting .318 (14x44) with 10 runs scored, 5 doubles, 3 home runs and 11 RBI. He has also hit safely in 17 of his last 18 games, batting .333 (27x81) with 19 runs scored, 10 doubles, 4 home runs and 20 RBI.
Double A Jackson also lost on Saturday night, falling 9-7 to Huntsville. It was the Generals third straight loss to Huntsville. Jake Shaffer and Rich Poythress had two hits each for Jackson.
