LHP Danny Hultzen (2nd overall), catcher John Hicks (4th) and third baseman Steven Proscia (7th) are currently playing for the University of Virginia, while RHP John Taylor is on the University of South Carolina squad (22nd).
Also, the team has signed non-drafted free agents RHP Ben Cornwell (University of Georgia) and RHP David Holman (Emporia State University).
Never miss a local story.
Cornwell, 22, attended the University of Georgia the last two seasons, splitting time between the starting rotation and bullpen. He also attended Virginia Tech and Georgia Perimeter College.
Holman, 21, recently completed his junior season at Emporia State University. He is the son of former Mariners pitcher Brian Holman, while his uncle Brad Holman also played for the Mariners and was a pitching coaching within the organization. David was drafted three consecutive seasons (2008-10), including twice by the Mariners (2009-10), but decided to attend college.
