Before we get to last night's games and the minor league report, let's get to a few quick notes.
The Rainiers also made a roster move calling up right-hander Erasmo Ramirez from Double A Jackson. Ramirez will start tonight on the mound in place of lefty Anthony Vasquez. It leads you to think that Vasquez (3-2, 3.42 ERA), who has been the Rainiers best pitcher of late, will make the start for the Mariners on Wednesday against the A's. The Mariners have yet to announce a starter - they've said they are going to keep Charlie Furbush in the bullpen for the time being - so it seems like Vasquez would be the likely candidate.
Vasquez is not on the 40-man roster, but the Mariners have a slot open.
Let's get to yesterday's games
Carlos Peguero and the Rainiers took advantage of an error by Las Vegas third baseman Brett Lawrie in a 4-3 win. Pegeuro hit a three-run homer to provide the difference. Peguero is batting .328 (20x61) with 8 extra-base hits and 15 RBI over his first 13 games since being optioned from Seattle on July 17.
Double A Jackson got a solid starter from lefty James Paxton and James McOwen came up with a big hit in a 2-1 win. Paxton pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing one run on five hits, while striking out eight batters.
Class A High Desert lost 3-2 on a walk-off hit. Starter Kenn Kasparek gave up two runs on four hits, while striking out seven.
Class A Clinton got an outstanding starter from lefty Tony Butler in a 2-1 11-inning win. Butler pitched seven shutout innings giving up four hits while striking out four and walking one.
Class A Everett won it's fourth game in a row, beating Boise 9-4. The Aqua Sox banged out 16 hits in the win. Also Luis Rodriguez (elbow) completed his rehab stint with the team and will be back with the Rainiers.
