The Mariners filled out their 25-man roster by recalling right-hander Tom Wilhelmsen from Double A Jackson before today's game.
Wilhelmsen has been basically a starting pitcher for the generals pitching, making 12 starts in 14 appearances. He posted a 4-5 record with a 5.49 ERA. Inn 60 2/3 innnings he struck out 40 batters and walked 26.
He started the season with the Mariners as a reliever, appearing in eight games and posting a 5.59 ERA. He pitched 9 2/3 innings and struck out but walked nine.
Unless the Mariners are planning to go to a six-man rotation or tomorrow is Charlie Furbush's only start, then it looks as though Wilhelmsen will be in the bullpen. One of the reasons, he was called up will be to be the long relief for Furbush tomorrow, who has been mostly pitching out of the bullpen this season and isn't stretched out.
