The Arizona Fall League's annual Rising Stars game is Saturday, and one Seattle Marners prospect - left-hander Danny Hultzen - is scheduled to start for the AFL West team, and another, shortstop Nick Franklin, is on the West roster.
The game will be televised nationally on the MLB Network and on MLB.com, and will be played in Peoria, Ariz. at 5:10 p.m. (PDT) Saturday.
The AFL Rising Stars game is something of a prospect All-Star contest, and more than 1,900 of the 3,200 AFL alumni have wound up playing in the majors. As the league likes to point out, it's graduates include 169 big-league All-Stars, nine league MVPs and three Cy Young Award winners.
A year ago, Dustin Ackley's breakout AFL season helped catapult him into consideration for a Seattle roster spot in spring training, though he eventually was brought to the big leagues in June.
In five AFL starts, Hultzen is 1-0 with a 1.62 earned run average, a 1.02 WHIP and, in 16 2/3 innings, has 12 strikeouts and only four walks. Franklin, in 15 games, is batting .208 with one home run and seven RBI.
