Pretty standard line-up, although Nick Franklin has moved up a spot in the order ahead of the slumping Michael Saunders, who is really scuffling.
How bad is it?
That's not good. Saunders has been a ghost in the clubhouse, spending hours in the cage and in the film room trying to figure it out.
Mariners manager Eric Wedge is hoping to start Justin Smoak tomorrow against lefty Scott Diamond. Smoak has had no problems swinging the bat right-handed. I'm guessing he would put Smoak at DH to ease him back in.
Outfielder Michael Morse is still a few days away from starting. He might be available as a pinch hitter today.
Jeremy Bonderman was at Target Field, played catch, did some running and is back at the hotel. Because he hasn't officially been added to the roster, he can't stay in the dugout with the team. The official roster move won't be announced until tomorrow. The 25-man roster will likely be Alex Liddi going back to Tacoma. The 40-man roster move will likely be Vinnie Catricala being designated for assignment.
As for anyone lamenting the loss of Jon Garland, well there is this from his last eight starts ...
Are Aaron Harang's numbers better? Not really Harang has only made seven starts this season and is 2-5 with a 6.51 ERA. So it's pretty much a wash.
So what was the point of all this? I have no idea. I was just enjoying playing around on baseball reference.
