Greetings from Cheney Stadium. I'm here to cover Taijuan Walker's Triple A debut with the Tacoma Rainiers tonight against the Fresno Grizzlies. Obviously, there will be quite a few media here as well.
Danny Hultzen is also here long-tossing. He'll pitch Thursday night.
Last night, the Rainiers rolled to a 14-5 win over Fresno. Brandon Maurer looked very sharp at times and a little shaky in others. But he struck out nine hitters. In the last three starts, James Paxton (11), Erasmo Ramirez (10) and Maurer have combined to strike out 43 Fresno hitters which is a good thing for Walker. Walker is the only Mariners prospect in Baseball Prospectus' top 50 prospects.
Brad Miller extended his hitting streak to 20 games. Here's video of his second double of the night.
It was my first time watching Dustin Ackley play in the outfield. He looked pretty comfortable. Of course, looking comfortable in Triple A and playing well in the big leagues are two very different things. Here's some video of a nice running catch he made in the game.
Here's Mike Curto's blog with pertinent links ...
