The Mariners are set to wrap the "first half" -- this will be the 95th game of the year -- with Hisashi Iwakuma on the hill against the Angels. Seattle is once again going for its first sweep of the season.
Iwakuma is expected to be replaced on the American League All-Star roster because he would not be available to pitch in Tuesday's game. Mariners manager Eric Wedge said Iwakuma knows where his priority is, "and that's right here."
Some medical updates:
Reliever Stephen Pryor (torn lat) will join Single-A Everett either Tuesday or Wednesday. If all goes well there, he will join the Rainiers.
Outfielder Franklin Gutierrez (hamstring) will workout over the All-Star break, then be sent to Tacoma for another rehab assignment. Wedge said Gutierrez’s absence -- he’s played in just 18 games this year -- “no doubt the biggest loss for us.”
> Rainiers starter Taijuan Walker pitched an inning in Sunday’s MLB Futures Game. He forced two ground outs, a fly out and allowed just a walk. His fastball reached 97 mph.
In a stunner, Sunday's lineup is the same as Saturday's.
