No Brad Miller in the line-up today, which is a little surprising since he looked healthy last night. Manager Eric Wedge wanted to give him one more day of rest. But Miller will be available for late in the game.
Raul Ibanez is out of the line-up today. Wedge told him last night. But I would expect that Ibanez will be in the line-up much of the homestand so he can try and get that 30th home run and pass Ted Williams for most home runs in a season by a player ag 40 or above. It's not a bad thing. Ibanez has earned the chance to do that with what he's done this season.
Mike Zunino will catch Felix Hernandez again. Eric Wedge has felt it's important for Zunino to catch Felix these last few outings to get prepared for next season.
Never miss a local story.
"He's going to be catching him quite a bit in the future," Wedge said.
Erasmo Ramirez did some running and throwing pregame. His sore groin seems to be fine.
The Mariners have updated their pitching rotation for the Royals portion of the homestand (above). After some minor debate, Hisashi Iwakuma will start on Wednesday.
"We talked about it," Wedge said. "But he wants to pitch. And he's given us every indication that he's still strong."
The rotation for the final three games is up in the air. Much of it depends on how Hernandez feels after this start. The Mariners could use any combo of Ramirez, Hernandez and Joe Saunders. A Friday start would be normal for Hernandez.
