A memorial service will be held this weekend for Ronald Zollo, the longest-tenured employee in the history of Tacoma minor-league baseball, who died Dec. 31.
He was 70.
Zollo, a Hudson’s Bay High School and Portland State University graduate, was the first employee hired by then-Tacoma Twins owner Stan Naccarato and served 23 seasons with the organization from 1972-94.
A former assistant general manager, Zollo mostly oversaw marketing and promotions, and was the longtime Cheney Stadium public address announcer.
Never miss a local story.
Zollo was also the public address announcer for the Goodwill Games in 1990.
Zollo’s memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Summit Club at Cheney Stadium.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Zollo’s name can be made to any local food bank or animal shelter.
