LB Isaiah Kacyvenski has signed a one-year deal with the St. Louis Rams, his agent confirmed today. The deal makes sense for Kacyvenski because he is still guaranteed to receive his 2006 salary from the Seahawks, plus what the Rams will pay him. Still, this was a difficult decision on a personal level because of his affinity for coach Mike Holmgren and the coaching staff here, and his many friendships in the locker room. This is a blow to the Seahawks' special teams because, as Holmgren noted Monday, they wanted him back.
ANALYSIS: The Seahawks' decision to release Kacyvenski on the eve of a big game told him what he needed to know about his standing here. Realistically, Kacyvenski was going to be the seventh LB here until they could replace him with a younger guy. The Rams don't have the same kind of depth at linebacker. Do not underestimate the financial aspect of this, either. Kacyvenski can't take his NFL future for granted. He's living on the fringes of the roster. This deal with the Rams is like getting an extra year's salary (three-fourths, anyway).
