I had fun in the locker room this week asking players to name which teammate cleared 6-foot-8 in the high jump while in high school. Kelly Herndon and D.J. Hackett had heard the story before, so they correctly singled out kicker Josh Brown.
"He can kick, he can jump. Man, we might want to put the ball in his hands. Might need to start calling him 'Slash.' " -- CB Marcus Trufant, on Josh Brown
Others seemed shocked. Marcus Trufant joked that the Seahawks might want to start using Brown the way Pittsburgh used Kordell Stewart years ago. Seneca Wallace missed on three guesses before finally guessing Brown -- only after I turned to Ryan Plackemeier, whose locker was nearby, and suggested that the rookie punter should know this mystery jumper's identity. Julian Peterson said he never would have guessed, although he singled out Brown's running motion as evidence of athleticism.
The resulting story ran in our Football Friday section (cover image at right). You can read it here as well. We also have some audio snippets available (see highlighted options along right side of blog). Be sure to refresh your browser after clicking on the RSS link.
