Art Shell's desperation replay challenge Monday night left him with a league-worst 0-4 record in challenges this season. Shell, Dick Jauron, Marty Schottenheimer, Romeo Crennel, Rod Marinelli and Andy Reid are a combined 0-14 in challenges, dragging down the head coaches' reversal rate to .355 this season. That would still be the highest rate since 2002 if it held up through the regular season. The league-wide breakdown is at right.
We also have graphics showing referee breakdowns for Week 9 only and through Week 9 as a whole. With an assist from Shell, Bill Carollo upped his record to 8-0 in coach-initiated challenges. He is the only ref with an unbeaten record against coaches this season. At the other end, Walt Anderson has five reversals in seven coach-initiated challenges. Gerry Austin is close behind with five reversals in eight coach-initiated challenges.
Coaches were 4-11 in replay challenges in Week 9. Refs Peter Morelli and Bill Vinovich were 2-0 against the coaches.
