Another late night here at Seahawks Insider. I wanted to watch the video of Seattle's defense against the 49ers. Made it through all but the final minutes. The 49ers had nine runs of at least eight yards and all were from two-back sets. I noted earlier that the Chiefs' biggest running plays came from personnel groups that included one running back, but I have to go back and watch the video to see how that personnel was aligned. They put the tight end in the backfield quite a bit, so a lot of those runs could have come from two-back looks even though it was the tight end in the backfield. We'll have more on that as time permits.
In the meantime, we have our picks for Week 12. My wife has been chipping away at my overall lead in recent weeks. I was 9-7 last week, bringing the total to 80-47 since we started picking on the blog. She was 10-6, inching up to 78-49. This week we disagreed on three games. She has a gutsy pick in the Denver-KC game.
She skipped the comments this week and I didn't say anything to her about it. I'm not saying much to her for another day or so. It's like the cooling-off period they have after games, preventing reporters from getting into the locker room before players have had a chance to wind down a little. Her Wednesday included five consecutive hours in the car with the kids, stuck in traffic as she took one of my siblings to the airport and back. Thanksgiving traffic was a nightmare. That's why I didn't leave Seahawks HQ until after 7.
Never miss a local story.
My day was pretty glamorous as well. The highlight was briefly huddling in a Honey Bucket with Brock Huard after practice. Seriously. The rain was making it tough to record our weekly interview. I suggested standing under some trees, but the water was running off the pine needles and soaking us pretty good. Brock ducked into the portable and held open the door. This was one of those double-wide units, so there was room. But it just didn't feel right. Luckily my recorder malfunctioned, so we were only in there for about 15 seconds. We recorded the interview later in another location. It reminded me of the stories I heard about Dan Marino doing his weekly media conference calls from the john. I can't confirm that, but that was the word.
