The injury situation has improved dramatically for two reasons: marquee players have returned and backups are showing improved play. Chris Spencer has settled in at center. Floyd Womack is playing more effectively at left guard. Rob Sims is pushing Womack for the starting spot. D.J. Hackett is filling in very well for Bobby Engram. Tom Ashworth has brought at least some stability to right tackle while Sean Locklear recovers from an ankle injury. These are the sorts of things that must happen for a good team to succeed in the playoffs. Seattle received those types of contributions last season. No team can be expected to function at a high level over a long period without the starting quarterback and starting running back. Now that Seattle has those guys back, the other guys aren't having to play a perfect game.
