The 49ers are playing very conservatively. At one point their offense appeared to be in an old T-formation. San Francisco had zero first downs in the first quarter (Seattle had seven). The 49ers are giving the ball to Frank Gore most of the time, as expected. The Hawks are loading up against the run, both in how they line up and in the type of personnel they are putting on the field (particularly on first down).
Seattle's offense is doing some decent things, but nothing comes easily. They've fumbled the ball and dropped passes already. The offensive tempo has been pretty good at times. Seattle has dusted off the Tiger personnel we talked about (1RB, 2WR, 2TE). Alexander has a strong rushing average from this personnel group. They used it effectively in spots against the 49ers last time around. Also, Bobby Engram is playing only in the four-wide group.
