One of our readers took a look at the Seahawks' most recent game and concluded, among other things, that Mack Strong is getting driven backward, forcing Shaun Alexander to cut back, and that Chris Gray is getting pushed around consistently, and that the blocking by the tight ends is not good.
My take on those things: Strong is not enjoying the type of season he did in 2005, and the ankle injury has made things worse (at age 35, he isn't going to be improving in terms of overall play or health); Gray was going against Bryant Young, who has pushed around everyone the Seahawks have put in front of him over the years; and the blocking by the tight ends is indeed a liability. You can bet the team will have new personnel at tight end next season, at least in spots if not across the board. ...
Mahk77: I can guarantee your observations. The Seahawks ran on their first eight first-down plays of the second half. These plays netted 20 yards total. The team passed on six of its final seven first-down plays. The results of these pass plays: gains of 1, 11 and 21 yards; an interception; and two sacks. The lone run gained 1 yards. ...
lordtd: The Seahawks agree with you. That is why they tried to acquire John Abraham from the Jets. That is why they tried to move up in the draft to take an impact defensive lineman. That is why they will, presumably, try to address those areas in the offseason. ...
iqbal70: I have spoken with some people who think Lofa Tatupu in particular is just not running through people when making tackles. There is some thought that he is arm tackling more or just less apt to stick his nose into places. I don't have any way to quantify this, but my own observations would not disagree. Leroy Hill has been playing with shoulder stingers, and his role has changed. Julian Peterson is making things tough on the opposition, but he is the only one at LB. ...
pabuwal: I think DJ Hackett has shown he deserves a look as someone's No. 2 receiver. ...
Which year is the aberration? Last season was the aberration. That does not mean it was illegit. Teams simply do not go 13-3 consistently. The Seahawks will be between 8-8 and 10-6 this season. That is true for many seasons. By definition, 13-3 is the aberration.
No12Seahawk: Individual players did not always give up a certain play, but when you look at theh list, it's fair to say Michael Boulware made errors on a high percentage of them. The staff recognized this and took him off the field.
