This is from KFFL: Updating previous reports, Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports San Francisco 49ers QB Alex Smith (shoulder) will have his shoulder re-examined Thursday, Oct. 4, after the swelling goes down. There are tears in the AC and CC ligaments in his right shoulder. Smith will likely miss a few weeks, but there is no definite timeframe. "To put a (timeframe) on it right now, according to the doctors, is tough. The next few days are pretty crucial to see how it responds. They wouldn't put an exact date on it, but -- yeah -- a few weeks," Smith said. Smith said he does not want to come back to early.
